The Shipboard Integration of Logistic Systems (SILS) is a collection of collaborative tools that monitors shipboard activities and provides the captain with a snapshot of the ship's readiness at any moment. Utilizing intelligent computer-based agents, SILS maintains a ship's readiness to perform a particular mission by assessing the personnel, maintenance, logistics, supply, and engineering aspects of a ship's posture. The system sends the user notices regarding mission capability in terms of strike operations, maritime intercept operations, and ship protection.

Our approach to system design incorporates collaborative agents with knowledge in specific domains. In order to respond quickly to changing circumstances, agents send alerts, inferences, and recommendations to shipboard personnel. SILS maintains the readiness posture of a ship by sending timely information streams to appropriate ship decision makers in the areas of mission assessment, mission planning, and resource allocation.

The objective of SILS is to accelerate the decision-making process and provide continual support from pre-deployment to post-deployment. At every point in the decision-making process, agents monitor and contribute solution strategies within their areas of knowledge. Although user requests for assistance are supported, the system does not wait for such requests to offer contributions.
